Ok, so I’m in Google maps and of course I have looked at my own address!  Interesting to try and guess when the photo was taken.  I liked the other options too – thought the ‘more’ button was good with photos and wiki entries about the local area.  Here’s the link to my house: http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=q&hl=en&q=&jsv=140g&sll=53.569931,-1.76043&sspn=0.018069,0.038109&ie=UTF8&geocode=FfFAMQMdvAHl_w

Got directions from Huddersfield to Madrid.  It reckons it is 1269 miles and will take 20 hours 13 mins.   I like the directions tool – I’ve used it before myself at home, seeing as I am one of the few people who hasn’t got a satnav!

After much to-ing and fro-ing (is that the correct spelling?) I have managed to add to the Guide to Huddersfield.  I have put some information about my home village of Scholes and I have managed to link the information to the main Guide to Huddersfield page.

12th and 13th Thing

Feeling refreshed after a week off last week!  I have been browsing around Wikipedia.  Never been on it before but heard about it.  It’s facinating to see how much  information there is on there.  Found an interesting article about Druckers Vienna Patisseries.  Apparently there’s one in Leeds and one in Manchester.  Wonder if any other 25 thingers have been there?  Sounds delicious.

Also had a look at current events.  Interesting way to see the news documented over the last few days.

Had a look around Technorati today.  Again, the amount of information is quite overwhelming.  However, it’s an interesting place to look.  I enjoyed reading through the news pages.

This is a pretty useful feature.  Got myself an account on del.icio.us and put a couple of websites on.  I can see how this would be a really useful tool for lecturers and students because it is public and it’s always interesting to see how other people have searched for information.  Might help my husband with his Masters.

I had a look at Topixnet and Syndic8 but, to be honest, the amount of information on there was quite overwhelming.  How do people find the time to look at all this stuff?! As I said before, I don’t really look at news sites and the like, so these sites are not really something that I would use.  Interesting to know about them though.

Ok.  I’ve set up a bloglines account and added some RSS feeds to it.  Helps me to understand what RSS is and how to use it.  I can see how useful it would be for people.  I wouldn’t use it so much because I don’t use news sites and that sort of thing.  I don’t get to use the internet every day and when I do I tend to be doing specific things e.g. banking, email and they don’t seem to have RSS feeds.

I’ve had a quick look around flickr at mashups.  I like the color pickr and I also liked the spelling one.  I had a read up on mashups on the link provided but I find all the jargon quite hard to understand.  Does anyone else have this problem?  Also, I have spent a lot more time than aniticipated again on the Things.  1 hour a week work time is not a lot when you can’t really do much at home.  Having said all that, I am learning lots of new things, which is great.

Well I managed to upload a photo from home onto flickr.  It’s a picture of the canal boat we stayed on in Cheshire earlier in the year.  (Didn’t want to put any photos of people because we had to make it public.)  I will now attempt to get the photo from flickr onto here…

Oh well – I’ve spent the last 30 minutes messing around but can’t do it!  I’ve tried the ‘add media’ key on here but I must not be filling in the details correctly because it doesn’t work.  So I tried to find the ‘Flickr blogging tool,’ as mentioned in the 25 things instructions, but I can’t find that either!  Not very happy.  Maybe the instructions on our 25 things guide need to be clearer for us novices.  I’ll ask someone and try again later.

In the meantime, I’ll have a look at 7th Thing.

Here I am again.  Refreshed after the weekend!  I’ll try again…

Hooray!!!  It actually worked!  I have to say the ‘add media’ on here is not that clear.  You have to put the URL into the ‘source’ box whereas there is a ‘link’ box further down which I thought you would put it in.  Anyway, with Dave’s help I have managed it.  Thanks Dave.

Ok, here goes.  I’m on flickr.  Here’s a link to a photo I like: http://www.flickr.com/photos/frankieduberry/3022114514/

It’s a great photo of the Eiffel Tower.  It reminds me of when I was a student and visited Paris during my year abroad in France.  I also spent a couple of days of my honeymoon in Paris but we didn’t go up the Tower because my husband is so scared of heights he can hardly bear to look at it!

I’m now going to try and sign up to flickr….

Ok, now set up flickr basic account.  Will have to try and do 6th thing from home so I can upload photo from there.
